VSL
VAFC ACADEMY TEAMS TO PLAY VSL IN FALL 2022
Competition/Divisions
The Virginia Soccer League hosted 359 teams in the fall and 180-200 in the spring. The number of teams provides more evenly matched competitive games for the development of the player. Every club participates in the forming of the divisions in the seasonal meeting.
Local Travel
Virginia Soccer League is locally based. Over 85% of our team's games are located within 30 minutes of their home club; excluding those clubs located outside of 30 minutes of the majority of the league's clubs. In almost all cases only the leagues top divisions travel outside of the home club area. Every club participates in the formation of divisions every season.
League Club Support and Fees
Virginia Soccer League fees are less than other travel leagues in the state. VYSA/US Youth Soccer's registration fees (carding fees) are lower than other national associations and do not charge for team officials and team aides. Virginia Soccer League in support of our clubs has distributed over $140,000 in the areas of education and equipment. $90,000 for goals and $50,000 in licensing, clinics, and convention fees for members. To serve and assist the member, Virginia Soccer League has both a Technical Director and League Administrator.
State Cup, President's Cup and Regional Competitions
US Youth Soccer National Championship Series (state cup) & President's Cup is open to all member teams. US Youth Soccer President's Cup is the "state cup" for "Division 2" level teams. VYSA and the Region 1 Director were instrumental in establishing the President's Cup nationally. Virginia Soccer League supports and encourages our teams to participate in President's Cup. Virginia Soccer League teams have won and advanced to regional and national finals.
Governance
All clubs have a vote in matters of by-laws and election of board members. All VSL members are eligible to be a board member if elected by the member clubs. Changes or additions to league rules may be proposed by clubs and are discussed with the club reps in the league seasonal meetings prior to being submitted to the board for a vote. Virginia Soccer League's process of input from clubs before submission to the board ensures "grass roots" participation by all clubs in the league.
